Writers in Residence

WRITERS IN RESIDENCE AT

YAVAPAI COUNTY FREE LIBRARY DISTRICT

The Yavapai County Free Library District (YCFLD) is pleased to announce its first Writers in Residence program, made possible by the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The Writers in Residence program aims to promote writing in communities by connecting local, professional authors to serve as Writers in Residence at public libraries. Writers in Residence spend time at the library during their residency, composing new works and providing education for community members.

From July to December 2024, YCFLD will host the following local authors as our very own Writers in Residence:

  • Lana Buckner at Clark Memorial Library, July through September 2024

  • Zarah Sandall at Dewey-Humboldt Town Library, September through November 2024

  • The Janimal at Clark Memorial Library, October through December 2024

Our Summer Writer in Residence program will feature local author Lana Buckner, July 3 through September 28, 2024.

About Our Current Writers in Residence:

The Clark Memorial Library welcomes cartoonist Lana Buckner to its lineup of Writers in Residence for 2024.

Lana is a multidisciplinary artist, experienced workshop leader, and lifelong storyteller. She has worked as a content writer, freelance editor, and tutor. Based out of her studio at the Old Jerome High School, Lana is actively engaged in the Verde Valley artistic community: she is a member of Reitz Ranch Center for Ceramic Education in Clarkdale and an LLC member of the Jerome Artists’ Cooperative Gallery. You can find her illustration-adorned ceramics at the JAC Gallery where she also serves on the Publishing Committee. Lana’s consultation hours will be available for writers who need help with editing, finessing, or finding their way through writers’ block. She is also keen to help students with college applications, essays, or any writing-related homework. Lana will be utilizing this residency to create long-form comics—come by the office hours or participate in one of her workshops if you’re interested in the process of visual narrative! During her residency, Lana will be available for up to eight 30-minute one-on-one sessions per week.

The Dewey-Humboldt Town Library welcomes sci-fi and dystopian fiction author Zarah Sandall for the Fall Writer in Residence program for 2024.

Zarah is a proud Indie author sharing her love for sci-fi, dystopian, and post-apocalyptic fiction with the world. She can be found online sharing writing and dialogue prompts, inner monologues, and relatable peeks into author life. When she's not lost in her own personal war of the words, she can be found chilling with her family or practicing her archery for the zombie apocalypse. You know, just in case…

You can find out more about Zarah at https://www.authorzarahsandall.com/

Zarah’s consultation hours will be available for writers who would like to "dive into worlds where anything is possible—heroes rise, mysteries unravel, and emotions soar.
