WRITERS IN RESIDENCE AT

YAVAPAI COUNTY FREE LIBRARY DISTRICT

The Yavapai County Free Library District (YCFLD) is pleased to announce its second Writers in Residence program, made possible by the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The Writers in Residence program aims to promote writing in communities by connecting local, professional authors to serve as Writers in Residence at public libraries. Writers in Residence spend time at the library during their residency, composing new works and providing education for community members.

Steve & Carol Huffman

December 6 through February 24

Steve and Carol Huffman are a married writing team who combined their individual talents of horse training and creativity into a cohesive and often humorous look into nonfiction writing. They released their book, “Between the Reins-The Evolution of a Horseman” into the indie market in 2021 and have been busy giving author signings and talks for the last 4 years.
Steve’s background with horses has included running the largest dude ranch in Colorado, training horses professionally for 35 years in Idaho, and giving numerous horsemanship clinics and lessons. The culmination of his “Harvard education on horseback” came with his specialization in training reining horses. Steve is a gifted storyteller relating his 50+ years of professional horse training and time in the saddle to college folklorists, business personnel, and horse enthusiasts of any level. Even if you have never ridden a horse, Steve will make you laugh at least once and in doing so make all the difference.
Carol Huffman is a retired educator who has taught children from preschool to middle school. In 2021, she also wrote and released a children’s book affectionately titled, “Stinky Steve- Home at Last!” It’s the story of a stinkbug that wanders into a classroom and creates quite a ruckus. Although his presence in school isn’t appreciated, he eventually, like all of us, finds his place in the world.
Together, this team will offer you the following Creative Nonfiction workshops birthed from their front row seat of riding—and writing together.
