WRITERS IN RESIDENCE AT
YAVAPAI COUNTY FREE LIBRARY DISTRICT
The Yavapai County Free Library District (YCFLD) is pleased to announce its first Writers in Residence program, made possible by the Arizona State Library, Archives, and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The Writers in Residence program aims to promote writing in communities by connecting local, professional authors to serve as Writers in Residence at public libraries. Writers in Residence spend time at the library during their residency, composing new works and providing education for community members.
From July to December 2024, YCFLD will host the following local authors as our very own Writers in Residence:
-
Lana Buckner at Clark Memorial Library, July through September 2024
-
Zarah Sandall at Dewey-Humboldt Town Library, September through November 2024
-
The Janimal at Clark Memorial Library, October through December 2024
Our Fall Writer in Residence program will feature local author Zarah Sandall, September 4 through November 27, 2024.
Our Winter Writer in Residence program will feature local author The Janimal, October through December, 2024.
About Our Current Writers in Residence:
The Dewey-Humboldt Town Library welcomes sci-fi and dystopian fiction author Zarah Sandall for the Fall Writer in Residence program for 2024.
Zarah is a proud Indie author sharing her love for sci-fi, dystopian, and post-apocalyptic fiction with the world. She can be found online sharing writing and dialogue prompts, inner monologues, and relatable peeks into author life. When she's not lost in her own personal war of the words, she can be found chilling with her family or practicing her archery for the zombie apocalypse. You know, just in case…
You can find out more about Zarah at https://www.authorzarahsandall.com/
Zarah’s consultation hours will be available for writers who would like to "dive into worlds where anything is possible—heroes rise, mysteries unravel, and emotions soar. Whether you want to craft epic tales, explore deep character journeys, or build fantastical universes, fiction writing lets your creativity take flight. Transform your ideas into captivating stories that resonate, inspire, and entertain." (Zarah Sandall)

The Clark Memorial Library welcomes comic book author and artist The Janimal to its lineup of Writers in Residence for 2024.
The Janimal is a Jersey tomato roasting in the Arizona sun. A graduate of the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University (NJ), he now resides in Northern Arizona with his family and two cats. He has exhibited at comic conventions from Phoenix Fan Fusion to New York Comic Con and serves as the acting president of the Northern Arizona Cartoonist Association (NAZCA). His fun and cartoony style has a great retro feel and translates easily to the drawing demo classes that have been a staple at Verde Valley libraries and LibCons over the past five years.
